OUR WORK

Services

Our focus is on supporting the needs of our members, and we have a number of exciting projects currently underway that engage seniors within Chapeltown and the surrounding areas.

These initiatives are designed to support and enhance the lives of elderly individuals in a variety of ways. These include health and wellness programs, social engagement opportunities, and assistance with day-to-day tasks.

Through these projects, we provide our members with the resources and support they need to lead fulfilling lives and maintain their independence for as long as possible.

Health & Well-Being Hub

The Health and Well-Being Hub is a multicultural day center designed to cater to the physical and social needs of elders, the hub provides personalised care and promotes a diverse and inclusive environment.

The  hub provides equal opportunities and provision of care for all, motivating users to reach their full potential, offering a variety of social and intellectual activities, and accommodating religious and dietary needs.

As a model of good practice, the center’s success has influenced mainstream services to anticipate growth in the ethnic minority older people population. To join, referrals can be made from various sources, followed by an assessment to determine eligibility, and a pre-visit to the center to decide on regular attendance.

The center is located on Reginald Terrace in Leeds, with wheelchair access and is open six days a week from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

Home Services

The safety and well-being of our elderly service users is a top priority at the Leeds Black Elders Association. That’s why we offer a comprehensive Home Security/Safety Assessment service that is carried out at the service user’s property.

Our experienced and trained staff will conduct a thorough inspection to identify potential hazards and areas of concern, such as loose carpets, sharp edges, unsecured windows and doors, old or dangerous electric or gas systems, and inadequate lighting.

By identifying and addressing these potential hazards, we can help prevent accidents and injuries, and provide peace of mind to our service users and their families. Our staff will work to create a safe and secure living environment, promoting independent living and helping to maintain our service users’
quality of life.

Meals on Wheels

Leeds Black Elders Association provides a meal delivery service, available seven days per week, for individuals aged 55 and over in Leeds 6, 7, 8, and 9 areas.

Customisable options include a 2-course meal (soup and main or main and pudding) for £7.35, or a 3-course meal (soup, main, and pudding) for £8.71. Light tea options are available for an additional £3.80.

The service is culturally sensitive, caters to dietary needs, and invoices are managed by Leeds City Council. Contact our office for referrals.

Drop-In Service

Our club offers a variety of social and recreational activities, including exercise classes, bingo, dominoes, and guest speakers, for elderly individuals who wish to socialize in a relaxed setting.

While the beneficiaries are predominantly African-Caribbean, the club is open to all. Attending the club can alleviate social isolation and boredom, providing mental and physical stimulation through engaging activities. Additionally, it can facilitate community involvement and lead to a healthier, more fulfilling life.
